What is a treasure? Is it accumulated wealth? Is it something that is highly prized for its beauty or perfection? Is it a prize? Is it something you hold dear; something that is highly valued by its owner?
What about God? Is He your treasure? Above everything and everyone else?
Is He really your treasure?
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21 (NKJV)
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26 (NIV)
In the original language "hate" in this context means "love less". The passage literally means that we should love Jesus more than we love our families. And when we love Jesus the most, through Him it is possible to love our families even more than we ordinarily would have.
. . ."You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27 NIV)
